- Can anyone take out a Golfplan Golf Insurance and Travel Insurance policy?
- Golfplan is available to anybody who owns equipment used for golf. You do not need to be a member of a Golf Club and you do not need to have a golf handicap.
- Do I really need a specialist golf insurance policy as well as my household insurance policy?
- You may think you are automatically covered by your household insurance policy for all your golf equipment and public liability needs. However, many policies exclude public liability cover for sport injury and offer only restricted cover for equipment used for golf. It is extremely unlikely that such policies will give you the extensive worldwide protection provided by Golfplan Insurance. Some golf clubs offer 'golf insurance' for an extra fee on membership or green fees, some even make it mandatory. This cover is often limited to public liability on that course on that day only.
- Do I really need Public Liability Insurance to play golf?
- Yes. In April 1998 The Court of Appeal ruled that golfers who mis-hit shots causing injury to other persons will be liable to pay damages even if they do shout 'FORE'! To date Golfplan Insurance has settled the highest ever UK golf sport injury claim (£87,000 inc legal costs) after a policyholder's miss-hit tee shot hit a fellow golfer causing serious head injury. As Golf Courses get busier the probability of injuring a fellow golfer by ball or club is greater every time you play. Could you afford the costs and damages if sued? It may mean financial ruin if you are not adequately insured! Without Golfplan Insurance, Your Next Golf Shot Could Cost You a Fortune!
- How many people are injured whilst playing or practising golf?
- Statistics compiled by Golfplan Insurance show that some 12,000 golfing accidents happen each year. In one-year alone 3,530 head injury accidents occurred. Golfplan is now settling more personal liability claims than ever before. We have even settled vet bills for treatment to a dog whose leg was broken by a wayward golf ball!
- How well is my Golf Equipment protected with Golfplan Insurance?
- With Golfplan Insurance your golf equipment is protected against theft, loss or damage 24 hours a day in any country worldwide, even whilst in transit overseas by sea or air or whilst left in a locked boot of an unattended vehicle. In the UK you benefit from 365 days protection, which includes 120 days worldwide cover. Members of the Armed Forces receive year round protection whilst stationed overseas.
- I have a van that I use for work, a Jeep that I use socially and my wife has a hatchback. Is our golf equipment covered in each of these vehicles?
- Your golf equipment will be protected from theft from the Jeep and the hatchback whilst left unattended day and night provided the clubs are totally concealed under the parcel shelf or internal cover supplied by the manufacturers, and the vehicles are fully locked. Golfplan is unable to provide cover for equipment left in vans or similar vehicles at any time.
- If the shaft of one of my golf clubs breaks when I hit the ball, can Golfplan help?
- Yes. Our policies cover damage to equipment as well as theft and loss.
- Can I arrange continuity of cover at renewal?
- Yes, by requesting all future payments to be collected by annual direct debit. You simply need to provide us with your bank account number, sort code and the account holder name(s). You will be notified well in advance when payment is due. On renewing you will still have 21 days to cancel if you find you no longer require the policy.
- I am a taxi driver, can you provide protection for my golf equipment whilst in my car?
- Yes, provided you keep your clubs in the boot of the car where they are totally concealed (ie out of sight) and the car is fully locked when left unattended day or night.
- What is the largest settlement Golfplan has made on behalf of a member?
- In 2001 Golfplan Insurance settled the UK's largest Public Liability claim for a golf sport injury. The £87,000+ settlement (inc legal costs) was made on behalf of a client following an incident at the London Golf Club, September 1996. A declared provisional ball was 'duck hooked' low to the right, hitting a fellow golfer on the right temple as she walked forwards to the ladies tee. She suffered serious head injury.
- My 14 year old son has golf equipment (value £800). Can Golfplan provide an insurance policy for him?
- Yes. Our Junior policy for children up to the age of 17 years provides cover for equipment used for golf up to the value of £500. However, since your son's golf equipment is valued at £800 he can select a Golfplan policy that provides cover up to £1000 at an annual insurance premium of £49.50 on a new for old basis.
