Congratulations to Patrick who claims his first major victory. The American Ryder Cup phenomenon has now added the green jacket to cement his place in Masters history. The Augusta University graduate played three stunning rounds of near perfect golf on Thursday, Friday and Saturday shooting 69, 66 and 67 respectably. This stunning display of golf was close to setting further records as no golfer ever had posted four rounds of sub 70 in Masters History.
Reed was paired with Rory McIlroy in the final round. The Irish megastar was in search of his first Masters victory in order to complete a clean sweep of all four golf majors. Ricky started in impeccable fashion, producing some amazing shots and birdie opportunities soon followed. However unfortunately it was Rory’s putter that let him down on the final day, missing several short putts allowing Reed to maintain his three shot lead.
Spieth and Fowler made late charges shooting 64 and 67 to pressure Patrick. Reed held his nerve throughout and even after dropping shots during the round he bounced straight back and birdied shortly after. The new Masters champion can now build on this victory and with scoring throughout the weekend being excellent, it should lead to more highly contested tournaments on both the European and PGA Tour’s this season.
