Ian Poulter secures the final spot at The Masters with a victory at Houston Open.
Poulter was just one place away from qualification and knew that a victory would be enough to see him qualify for the iconic golf tournament, symbolising the start of the golf season. Poulter started the week in aggressive fashion making lots of birdies over the first 3 days, leaving him in a position to be in contention come Sunday afternoon.
Poulter finished with a strong round of 67, leaving him in a playoff with Beau Hossler after the pair finished on -19 after 72 holes. On the first playoff hole, Poulter held his nerve and carded a par 4 clinching the title and securing his spot at Augusta.
The Englishman who has been playing well in recent weeks, has now been rewarded for his hard work with this victory. If he continues playing in this fashion there is no reason why Poulter, come the Sunday of the Masters, will not be once again in contention for the lead. The golf starts with the famous par-three tournament on Wednesday 5th April, with the main tournament running 6th-9th April.
