Spieth leads the Masters as reigning champion Garcia takes 13

The Thursday at the Masters was as action packed as ever, the patrons and golf fans all over the world were treated to a magnificent display of golf.

The course was looking magnificent as ever, with no blade of grass out of place. Scoring started well and all players had high hopes of a good week and the chance of claiming the green jacket come Sunday. With Tiger Woods returning to his first major in some time due to his recent injuries, everyone was looking to see how he would get on. After a good start Woods then struggled, dropping shots around the turn. However in true Tiger fashion he manged to rally on the back 9 posting a closing score of 73 (+1).

The defending champion Sergio Garcia was in good spirits after hosting his fellow competitors with a Spanish themed menu at the Champion’s Dinner on Tuesday night. Hope of a successful defence of his title this year however took a huge fall as Garcia took 13 on the 15th hole, after hitting 5 in the water. Previous winner Jordan Spieth leads the way with a superb round of 66 (-6) after day 1. With an amazing round including 7 birdies and an eagle the young American leads by 2 shots. The chasing pack has one more round before the dreaded cut, to close the gap and secure their place for the weekend.
