History of Golfplan

From its inception in 1984, Golfplan has always strived to offer its most comprehensive golf insurance policies combined with great customer service to UK golfers. Our policies are underwritten at Lloyd’s of London and we are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Today, Golfplan insures more than £60 million of golfing equipment on behalf of tens of thousands of golfers. Our knowledgeable, friendly and experienced customer service and claims team, enable us to maintain our commitment to providing our high level of customer service.

Golfplan are a proud Partner of the PGA and have had a relationship with the organisation since 1996. We have always believed that a PGA Professional is best qualified to assist in the fulfilment of golf equipment claims, enabling Golfplan policyholders to benefit from the expertise of over 2,000 PGA Professionals.

1984: Ron Channon launches Golfplan, the UK’s first specialist golf insurer, after his miss hit golf ball almost kills his 9 year old daughter at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club.

1985: Golfplan launches its network of PGA Professionals.

1990: Golfplan signs 1,000th PGA Golf Professional.

1996: Golfplan and the PGA formalise their working relationship.

1997-2000: Golfplan sponsors Tobago Pro-Am.

1998: Golfplan signs 1,500th PGA Golf Professional.

2001-2007: Golfplan launches and promotes Vilamoura Festival of Golf, Portugal.

2002: 2000th Golf Professional signed to Golfplan.

2006: Golfplan reaches another milestone, this time passing £50 million of equipment covered.

2009: Golfplan celebrates its 25th anniversary as one of the UK’s leading providers of specialist golf insurance and looks ahead to 25 more with the launch of a new website.

2012: Golfplan joins forces with K. Drewe Insurance Brokers, a leading broker within the Leisure Insurance market.

2013: Golfplan joins the PGA Partner programme, further reflecting its close affiliation with the PGA. Golfplan and its parent company Sompo Canopius also announce their sponsorship of the PGA Pro-Captain Challenge Golf Tournament.
